Planning a first trip to Disneyland Paris comes down to six decisions, in this order: when to go, how many days to stay, which tickets to buy, where to sleep, how to get there and how to spend your days in the parks. Get the first two right and everything else becomes easier and cheaper.

This guide walks you through each step and links to the detailed guides when you need more. I’ve lived in Paris for 5 years, and a regular visitor to Paris. My favorite way to get there is getting the RER A.

Disneyland Paris in a nutshell

  • Where: Marne-la-Vallée, about 30 km east of Paris, with its own train station opposite the park gates.
  • Two parks: Disneyland Park, the classic castle park, and Disney Adventure World, formerly Walt Disney Studios, home to World of Frozen and Avengers Campus.
  • Disney Village: a free-to-enter area with restaurants and shops between the parks and the hotels.
  • Disney Hotels: seven official hotels, most within walking distance of the parks.

Step 1: Choose when to go

Dates drive almost everything: crowds, ticket prices and hotel prices. The quietest and cheapest times are usually weekdays outside French and UK school holidays. Weekends, school holidays, Halloween and the Christmas season are the busiest.

SeasonWhat to expect
SpringMild weather and seasonal events; busy during Easter holidays
SummerLongest opening hours, but peak crowds and prices
AutumnHalloween season in October; quieter weekdays in early autumn
WinterChristmas season from early November; cold, but magical decorations

Going in winter? Read the Disneyland Paris Christmas guide.

Step 2: Decide how many days

  • 1 day: enough for the highlights of Disneyland Park, especially with young children. You’ll need to prioritise.
  • 2 days: the sweet spot for most families. One day per park, or a relaxed pace in both.
  • 3 days or more: time to repeat favourites, see the shows and parades, and take breaks.

More detail in how many days you need at Disneyland Paris.

Step 3: Buy your tickets

Buy dated tickets online in advance: prices follow a calendar and tend to rise as the date gets closer. Choose 1 park or 2 parks for a single day, and a multi-day ticket for longer stays, which includes both parks at a lower price per day. Children aged 3 to 11 pay the child rate, and under-3s go in free.

Every ticket type explained, plus Premier Access, in the Disneyland Paris tickets guide.

Step 4: Choose where to stay

  • Disney Hotels: closest to the parks, with one hour of Extra Magic Time each morning.
  • Partner hotels: cheaper, with a free shuttle bus.
  • Val d’Europe: apartments with kitchens, one RER stop away.
  • Paris: only if you’re visiting the city too.

Every hotel compared in where to stay at Disneyland Paris.

Step 5: Plan how to get there

  • From Paris: RER A to Marne-la-Vallée – Chessy, around 40 minutes.
  • From CDG airport: TGV in about 10 minutes, or the Magical Shuttle coach.
  • From Orly: Magical Shuttle, or metro line 14 + RER A.
  • From London: Eurostar with a change at Lille or in Paris (no direct train at the moment).

Step-by-step routes in how to get to Disneyland Paris.

Step 6: Plan your days in the parks

Download the Disneyland Paris app

The official app is essential. It shows wait times, show and parade schedules, opening hours and character meets, and it’s where you join virtual queues and buy Premier Access. Download it and log in before you travel.

Arrive before opening

The first hour of the day has the shortest queues. Be at the gates before opening and head straight to the most popular ride on your list. If you’re staying at a Disney Hotel, use Extra Magic Time.

Pick your must-dos, not everything

Ask each family member for their top three. Plan around those, and treat everything else as a bonus. Check height requirements in advance so no one is disappointed.

Book restaurants early

Table-service restaurants and character dining get booked up, especially in holidays. Reserve as soon as you have your dates. For quick meals, eat slightly before or after the lunch rush.

Build in breaks

With young children, a midday rest at the hotel or a quiet indoor show makes the evening far more enjoyable. Save energy for the end of the day, when the castle lights up.

[YOUR TIP: your best park-day strategy, such as which ride to do first or where to watch the evening show.]

How much does a trip cost?

Your budget depends on four things: park tickets, accommodation, food and transport. Dates matter most: the same trip can cost far less on quiet weekdays than in school holidays. Use the free Disneyland Paris budget calculator to get a realistic estimate for your family in a couple of minutes.

What to pack

  • Comfortable, broken-in shoes
  • A waterproof jacket or rain ponchos, whatever the season
  • A portable phone charger for the app
  • Refillable water bottles and snacks for the queues
  • Layers for the evening, when it gets cooler

Get the full list: free printable family packing list.

Your planning checklist

  1. Pick your dates, avoiding school holidays if you can.
  2. Decide how many days to spend in the parks.
  3. Book dated park tickets.
  4. Book your hotel.
  5. Book trains, flights or transfers.
  6. Reserve restaurants.
  7. Download the app and list everyone’s must-dos.
  8. Check the weather and pack.

Planning a Disneyland Paris trip: FAQ

How far in advance should I plan a trip to Disneyland Paris?

For school holidays and Christmas, book several months ahead. For quiet weekdays, a few weeks is often enough, but booking early usually gets you better prices.

Is one day enough for Disneyland Paris?

One day is enough for the highlights of Disneyland Park. To see both parks without rushing, plan two days.

What is the best age to take children to Disneyland Paris?

There’s no single answer, but many families find ages 4 to 10 the sweet spot: children are tall enough for more rides and still believe in the magic.

What is the cheapest time to go to Disneyland Paris?

Weekdays outside school holidays, especially in quieter months away from Halloween and Christmas.

Do I need the Disneyland Paris app?

Yes. It shows wait times and show schedules, and it’s where you join virtual queues and buy Premier Access.

Disneyland Paris celebrates Christmas from 7 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. The festive season is included in your normal park ticket and brings a giant tree on Main Street, U.S.A., falling “snow”, a Christmas parade, seasonal shows and Santa Claus. The big news for 2026: World of Frozen, in Disney Adventure World, joins the celebrations for the very first time.

Below you’ll find everything you need to plan a Christmas trip with your family: what’s on in each park, the best dates to avoid the crowds, what to pack, and how to save on tickets and hotels.

[YOUR TIP: one or two sentences about your own Christmas visit to Disneyland Paris. What did it feel like? What surprised you?]

What’s on in Disneyland Park

Disneyland Park is where most of the Christmas magic happens. Head straight to Main Street, U.S.A. when you arrive: it’s the heart of the celebrations.

The tree, the lights and the “snow”

A 24-metre Christmas tree stands in Town Square, and it lights up several times throughout the day and evening. Main Street is covered in garlands and ornaments, and artificial snow falls over it a few times a day. Children love it, and it makes for the classic Christmas photo.

[YOUR TIP: the best spot or time for a photo with the tree.]

Mickey’s Dazzling Christmas Parade

The Christmas parade runs twice a day along Main Street, U.S.A. Mickey and his friends, the Disney Princesses and Santa Claus ride on floats covered in twinkling trees. The parade is included in your ticket. Paid reserved viewing areas exist, but places are limited, so most families simply find a spot along the route.

Check the parade times in the Disneyland Paris app on the day, and claim your spot early: the kerb fills up fast in December.

Christmas shows

  • Let’s Sing Christmas! A sing-along show at Videopolis Theatre, in Discoveryland, with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Clarabelle. It’s indoors, which helps on a cold day.
  • Minnie and Mrs. Claus A musical moment on the Castle Stage, starting 14 November 2026.

Meeting Santa and the characters

Santa Claus is available for photos until 25 December. After Christmas Day he’s gone, so don’t promise a meeting to your children if you’re visiting between Boxing Day and 6 January.

Other festive character meets include Mickey and friends in Town Square, the Disney Princesses at Central Plaza and Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip in the Castle Courtyard. Some meets use a virtual queue in the Disneyland Paris app, and the line-up can change from day to day, so check the app each morning.

World of Frozen’s first Christmas

2026 is the first festive season for World of Frozen, the Arendelle-themed area of Disney Adventure World (the park formerly known as Walt Disney Studios). Expect Nordic-style decorations, a Christmas tree at the village entrance and two new seasonal moments:

  • Arendelle carollers, a choir performing festive songs in the village.
  • A Christmas celebration on Arendelle Bay, with Anna and Elsa in new winter outfits.

You can also meet Oaken and, for the first time in this area, Kristoff. Most of the Frozen entertainment is outdoors, so dress warmly.

Because it’s World of Frozen’s first Christmas, it’s likely to be one of the busiest areas of the resort. Plan it into your day rather than leaving it for the evening.

New Year’s Eve at Disneyland Paris

On 31 December 2026, Disneyland Park celebrates with fireworks over Sleeping Beauty Castle, and Disney Adventure World plans a fireworks and drone show over World of Frozen (the drones depend on the weather). The celebrations are included with a valid ticket for each park.

New Year’s Eve is one of the most popular dates of the whole season. If you want to be there, book your tickets and hotel as early as possible.

When to go: Christmas crowd calendar

DatesCrowdsGood for
Weekdays, mid to late NovemberQuietestFamilies with young children, shorter queues
Weekdays, early DecemberModerateFull Christmas atmosphere with fewer people
December weekendsBusyShort trips if weekdays aren’t possible
Christmas school holidays to New YearPeakFamilies tied to school dates
31 DecemberVery busyNew Year’s Eve celebrations

If you can choose, a Sunday to Thursday stay in the second half of November gives you the decorations, the parade and Santa, with much lighter crowds than December.

Weather and what to pack

November and December near Paris are usually cold, wet and windy. Real snow can happen, but don’t count on it. You’ll spend a lot of time standing outside, especially for the parade and the evening shows, so layers matter more than style.

  • Waterproof jacket for everyone
  • Waterproof, comfortable shoes
  • Gloves, hats and warm layers for after dark
  • Rain ponchos for the parade
  • Portable phone charger (the app drains your battery)

Tickets for Christmas

You don’t need a special ticket for Christmas: the decorations, parade and shows are included with standard admission. The question is which park ticket fits your plans.

  • Disneyland Park only: enough if your priority is the tree, the parade, Santa and the classic Christmas atmosphere.
  • Both parks: choose a 2-park ticket if you want World of Frozen’s first Christmas too.
  • Disney Premier Access: often unnecessary on quiet November weekdays, but worth considering during the school holidays.

Not sure which ticket to choose? Read the Disneyland Paris tickets guide.

Where to stay at Christmas

Hotel prices around Disneyland Paris climb quickly as December fills up. Moving your dates by a few days can change the price a lot, so compare several options before you book. If your budget is tight, an extra night on quieter dates usually gives you more than a more expensive hotel.

Each Disney Hotel gets its own festive decorations. Guests at participating Disney Hotels can also add an optional paid Christmas box to their stay, available from 5 November 2026 to 11 January 2027.

For a full comparison, see where to stay at Disneyland Paris.

Christmas food and treats

Restaurants across the parks add festive specials, and a winter market of gourmet chalets sells seasonal treats and hot drinks. Disney Village also has festive food and decorations, and you can visit it without a park ticket, which makes it a nice option for your arrival evening.

If you’re visiting around Christmas Day, book table-service restaurants as soon as reservations open.

[YOUR TIP: a festive treat or restaurant you’d recommend.]

A 2-day Christmas plan for families

Day 1: Disneyland Park

  1. Arrive before opening and ride the most popular attractions while queues are short.
  2. Join the virtual queue for Santa or other character meets in the app.
  3. Warm up indoors at Let’s Sing Christmas! in Discoveryland.
  4. Find your spot early for Mickey’s Dazzling Christmas Parade.
  5. Stay on Main Street for the snow and the tree lighting after dark.

Day 2: Disney Adventure World and Disney Village

  1. Head to World of Frozen first, before it gets busy.
  2. Catch the Arendelle carollers and the Christmas celebration on Arendelle Bay.
  3. Explore the rest of the park in the afternoon.
  4. End the day with dinner and festive treats in Disney Village.

For a first visit with children, stay at a Disney Hotel if your budget allows, or at a partner hotel with a free shuttle if it doesn’t. Disney Hotels are within walking distance of the parks and give you one hour of Extra Magic Time before the parks open to everyone else. Partner hotels and Val d’Europe cost less and are only a few minutes away. Staying in Paris only makes sense if you’re also visiting the city.

Here’s how every option compares, and which one suits your family.

Disneyland Hotel

The pink Victorian hotel sits right above the entrance of Disneyland Park, so you’re in the park in minutes. It reopened after a full refurbishment with a royal fairy-tale theme. It’s by far the most expensive option, but for a special celebration it’s hard to beat.

Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel

A modern hotel decorated with Marvel artwork, a short walk from the parks along Lake Disney. A great pick if your family loves Avengers Campus, and a little more grown-up in style than the other hotels.

Newport Bay Club

A large seaside-style hotel on the lake, with a nautical theme and a pool. It’s a calm, comfortable choice and often a good middle ground between price and location.

Sequoia Lodge

Inspired by the lodges of American national parks, with wood, stone and fireplaces that feel especially cosy in winter. Some room blocks feel more dated than others, so check which building you’re booking.

Hotel Cheyenne

A Wild West town themed around Toy Story, popular with families with young children. Rooms are simple and there’s no pool, but the theme makes up for it for little ones. It’s a longer walk to the parks, or you can take the free shuttle.

Hotel Santa Fe

The most affordable Disney Hotel, themed around Cars. Rooms are basic and there’s no pool, but you still get Extra Magic Time and the free shuttle. A smart choice if you’ll spend all day in the parks anyway.

Davy Crockett Ranch

Cabins with kitchens in a forest outside the resort. You’ll need a car to reach the parks, and there’s less Disney atmosphere, but the space and self-catering make it good value for large families.

Partner hotels: the budget-friendly middle ground

Disneyland Paris partner hotels are a few minutes away by road and run a free shuttle bus to the parks. They usually cost less than Disney Hotels and are often newer or more spacious. Some, like the Dream Castle Hotel, have a fairy-tale theme of their own.

Before you book, check how often the shuttle runs and when the last one leaves in the evening, especially if you want to stay for the fireworks.

Val d’Europe: apartments one stop away

Val d’Europe is the town next to the resort, one stop from Marne-la-Vallée – Chessy on the RER A. It has a large shopping centre, an outlet village, supermarkets and several apartment hotels with kitchens. It’s a good choice for stays of three nights or more, when cooking some meals yourself saves a lot of money.

Staying in Paris

If Disneyland is one or two days of a longer Paris trip, stay in the city near an RER A station, such as Châtelet – Les Halles, Gare de Lyon or Nation. You’ll reach the parks in about 40 minutes. For a Disney-only trip, though, the daily commute eats into your energy and your park time.

Planning both? Read how to combine Disneyland Paris and Paris in one trip.

Which option is right for you?

  • First visit with young children: a Disney Hotel close to the parks, for naps and Extra Magic Time.
  • Tight budget, short stay: Hotel Santa Fe or a partner hotel with a shuttle.
  • Big family or long stay: an apartment in Val d’Europe or Davy Crockett Ranch.
  • Paris and Disney in one trip: a hotel in Paris on the RER A line.

Prices change a lot with the season. Compare a few dates before you book, and add everything up with the free budget calculator.

Where to stay at Disneyland Paris: FAQ

An extra hour in the parks before the standard opening time, for guests staying at Disney Hotels and some other eligible guests. In 2026 it applies to both parks.
